This week we will feature the story of a policeman whose humble beginnings began in Ginatilan, Cebu. Join me as I narrate his simple yet inspiring experiences that mold him to what he is today.
PSMS Andy Ferraren Gornez, when he was younger sold “kakanin” to neighbors, in the market and house to house together with his mother to help support their needs. On weekends, he is a conductor, helping his father and uncle to earn money for his pocket money.
He grew-up struggling together with his six siblings. PSMS Gornez never knew frivolities, he was serious and having the responsibilities of adults even if he was still young.
As a young boy, child’s play was not an option, early in life he became mature taking on the responsibility of looking after the needs of his siblings and their livelihood. This was his reality.
It was the only life he knew, and this motivated him to study in order to change their fate, to overcome their situation to help his parents.
From Ginatilan, Cebu he travelled all the way to the Cebu City to study Bachelor of Science in Criminology at the University of the Visayas. On his 2nd year, he applied for a full scholarship to help ease the burden of his parents. He lived in the campus at the security force office. He never spent on room and board, this was economical for him. Finally, in March 2002 all his sacrifices bore fruit because at last he graduated from college.
After graduation, he worked at Metro Ayala and La Nueva Supermart as a civilian intelligence officer. Until September 1, 2005 where he was accepted as a member of the Philippine National Police.
He only had one ambition, to become a police officer. Upon his entry in the PNP he vowed that he will help his siblings and parents for them to have a better life.
Today, he was able to help his parents and siblings, he can attest that if one truly works hard and to “Try hard, until you until you succeed” nothing is impossible. He never lost sight of his ambition no matter the difficulties he encountered.
Currently, PSMS Andy Ferraren Gornez is assigned at Provincial Operations and Management Unit handling Internal Security Operation Section ISOS.
He is loved and inspired by his wife, Mrs. Liwaya Moran Cariego Gornez and their children, Lian Claire and Zed Andrei.
Truly, when one is motivated to change the course of their situation, it can happen! PSMS Andy Ferraren Gornez is a testament of that, he worked hard to become a police officer and the rest is history.
