HIS JOURNEY IN DEFYING POVERTY, ATTAINING A COLLEGE DEGREE TO REALIZE HIS DREAMS

-

This week we will feature the fulfilling life of a police officer who struggled and defied being poor. Despite his young age he knew that he has to endure the challenges away from his family in order to achieve his dreams and to break free from the history of being poor.

Join me as I tell you his story and look back on the life of PCMS Noel T Estender. His story began in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.

This lanky boy had to walk every day from home to school and vice-versa, he had to sacrifice six kilometers of daily walking in order to finish his elementary education.

Born to Manuel and Lydia Estender, he had three siblings who fought back their situation the only way they knew, to study hard and overcome their situation.

His father’s work was a utility church worker and his mother a housewife. Due to the meager income of his father he had to apply for a full scholarship in Sisters of Mary Boystown when he was in high school.

PCMS Estender had to endure time away from his family in order to graduate in high school. He missed the birthdays of his parents and siblings and important occasions just to achieve his most desired dream.

He tried his luck in applying for the PMA and PNPA but favors were not in his way.

In college, he was sent to school by two of his siblings who already graduated ahead of him. On the side, he worked as a helper to a carpenter in order to earn his pocket money and to finance his other needs in school.

PCMS Estender finished his college education with a degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education in Negros Oriental State University, Guihulngan Campus in 2002.

Before he became part of the PNP he experienced working as a warehouse checker. He didn’t achieve immediately his dream; he was disappointed when he failed to make it to the final cut of the applicants of the PNP when he first applied.

Finally, in September 1, 2005 he was accepted as a member of the PNP.

Today, PCMS Noel T Estender is currently assigned as the Chief Clerk of the Budget and Fiscal of the Cebu PPO Headquarters.

Currently, he is engaged in stocks, MP2 savings and bonds to increase his financial stability and fluidity. Slowly, he is investing his money wisely to increase his income to support his family.

He is guided by his motto “Nothing is permanent, don’t stress yourself too much because no matter how bad the situation is, it will change.”

PCMS Estender is supported by his wife, Cherrylane P. Estender and their loving children Clark Darren, Cara Sharmaine and Chelsea.

To all those who lost hope in their situation, look at PCMS Noel T Estender on how he did his best to finish his education. He had to sacrifice and miss his parents and siblings just to finish his education and achieve his dream of becoming a police officer. Now, PCMS Estender is living his lifelong dream and enjoying the fruits of his labor.
